Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make sure the engine is the correct match for my car?

Share your VIN or rego, exact year/make/model, transmission type and engine code (e.g., 1KD-FTV, BWA). For transmissions, include drive type (FWD/RWD/AWD) and the gearbox code (e.g., CVT or DCT variant). We will cross-check OEM or interchange part numbers and confirm fitment before you buy.

Where do I find my engine code or part number?

Engine codes are stamped on the block, often on the gearbox side, and may appear on the compliance plate, timing cover or paperwork. Transmission IDs are usually on a tag or sticker on the case. If you are unsure, send VIN or reg and clear photos and we will identify it for you.

Do kilometres (kms) matter on a used engine?

Kms help, but condition and testing matter more. We disclose donor kms when available and back it with our inspection and testing. Service history and test results are stronger predictors than kms alone. The same principle applies to transmissions where fluid condition and test results matter most.

Can you verify the kms on the engine?

We record the donor vehicle’s odometer where available using auction sheets, cluster readings or paperwork. Treat kms as a guide only. Our quality checks are your primary assurance.

What testing do you do before selling an engine?

Engines are run tested where possible and checked for leaks, abnormal noise, blow-by and fluid condition. We inspect cooling and oil passages and external components. Compression and leak-down results can be provided on request.

Transmissions: units are inspected and function tested where possible, we verify shift engagement and check for leaks. Every unit is backed by our quality guarantee and 100% customer satisfaction.

What’s included with the engine?

Unless stated otherwise, listings are for a long motor consisting of block, head and sump. Ancillaries such as alternator, starter, turbo, manifolds, injectors, loom and ECU are only included if specified in the description or photos.

Transmissions include the gearbox assembly. Accessories such as TCU or TCM, shifter, mounts, cooler, torque converter for autos, and flywheel or clutch for manuals are only included if stated.

Will my existing ECU and wiring work with this engine?

In most cases you will reuse your original ECU, loom and sensors. Some variants differ by year or emissions such as EGR, sensors and manifolds, so we verify after matching your VIN and engine code.

Transmissions: you will typically reuse your TCU, loom and cooler. Some CVT, DCT and auto variants require an exact code match, which is why VIN or rego is important.

Do you provide the OEM part number or compatibility list?

Yes. We supply OEM and interchange numbers and compatible variants for engines and transmissions so you can confirm fitment before purchase.

What should be replaced during installation?

Engines: new oil and filter, coolant, plugs or glow plugs, accessory belts, thermostat and timing kit and water pump if belt driven. Flush radiator and cooling system. Check rear main seal, mounts, hoses and gaskets. Prime the oil system before first start.

Transmissions: replace all seals and the filter if serviceable, flush or replace the oil cooler and lines, and fill with the manufacturer specified fluid. A basic transmission service by a qualified mechanic is required for warranty.

Do you offer warranty on used engines?

Yes.

Engines: generally 3 months parts warranty, parts only, excluding labour, freight and consequential loss. Warranty is void if overheated or incorrectly installed. Use correct fluids, replace recommended service items and ensure fitment by a qualified technician.

Transmissions: generally 90 days parts guarantee for private-use vehicles, parts only. All seals must be replaced and the cooler and lines flushed. Correct fluid is mandatory. Tampering or attempting repairs without contacting us may void warranty.

Note: second-hand items may show cosmetic wear. Dents and scratches are not covered. Returns for ordering errors or change of mind are not accepted. Provide VIN or rego so we can match the right part.

Can you help if the engine I need isn’t listed?

Yes.

We hold 27,000+ items in stock and access a large external network. If it is not on the shelf, we can source to order. Send VIN or rego and your engine or transmission code.

Do you ship and how are units packaged?

Pickup from Craigieburn is available and we ship Australia-wide. Engines and transmissions are drained, capped and palletised or crated. Tell us if you need tail-lift delivery or have no forklift. Shipping fees are non-refundable and carriers do not provide freight warranty on second-hand goods.

What if the engine doesn’t fit?

If we confirmed compatibility from your VIN or reg and part numbers and it still does not fit, contact us and we will make it right. Where incorrect details or ordering errors were supplied, returns are not accepted under our terms and conditions. In approved cases, parts must be returned in original condition and freight or restocking charges may apply.
